Approval Procedures

Receiving a submission

The erih+ team receives the submitted journal. Based on the information available on the journal’s website, the journal will be evaluated according to the Criteria for Inclusion.

First step of evaluation

The journal will be assessed against the general criteria. If one or more of the general criteria are not fulfilled, the journal will not proceed to the next stage of evaluation. The submitter will receive a notification of the rejection.

Second step of evaluation

All minimum criteria must be fulfilled in order for the journal to proceed to the second stage of evaluation. At this stage, evaluators will assess the journal against the full set of criteria and make a holistic judgment. The more criteria that are met, the higher the chances of approval. The submitter will be notified if the journal is approved or declined after this stage.

National Expert evaluation

In cases of doubt, or where additional expertise is required, National Experts may be consulted. Their evaluation will be based on their knowledge of the research field and/or the research publication culture of the country in question. This step is particularly relevant for journals published outside Europe. The submitter will be informed of the outcome by email.

Final decision

All submissions will be evaluated in due time. Submitters will receive a response regardless of the outcome of the evaluation. The processing time for new submissions is normally up to three months, but may take longer if the case is complex or requires consultation with National Experts.

Points of notification to the submitter.

If the information available on the journal’s website is insufficient, the submission will be rejected. The submitter will receive a notification specifying which criteria were not adequately documented.

In special cases – typically when information about the journal is sparse or when there are doubts concerning its European relevance – the processing time may be extended. In such cases, we may collect additional information through various sources, for example by contacting erih+ National Experts or other relevant information providers.

Before submitting a journal for potential inclusion, we strongly recommend that you read our ‘Criteria for Inclusion’ carefully.

If you are unsure whether the journal is relevant, you are welcome to contact us at erihplus@hkdir.no
